New Beginnings

Music for Life: With each student we teach, we set goals. Obviously one goal is to bring that student to the highest level of playing on his/her instrument. Other goals are to work on the student's band/orchestra music; prepare them for C/M; prepare for performance or competitions and sometimes, it is simply to create a musically educated person who will become an audience member. We need those as well! With these goals in mind, let us realize music is one subject which can be enjoyed for a lifetime, long after our ability to participate in sports. Beyond the obvious benefits of studying an instrument: self-discipline, stage deportment, and, the big one, the only subject that engages the entire brain, creating music brings a sense of possession. The student interprets/creates the music him/herself so it is uniquely his/her own.

Let us work together over the next two years to benefit our students, keeping their musical welfare as our primary goal. I look forward to seeing where our ship will sail once it leaves the port.
